Norfolk County is reviewing Mechanic Street in Waterford to better understand local traffic and road safety concerns. Through technical analysis and community input, the project will explore ways to improve safety, comfort, and the overall experience for everyone who uses the corridor.

The online comment portal will be open from September 25 to October 31, 2026. Comments may also be emailed directly to the Project Manager using the contact information below.

This engagement was initiated in response to resident concerns about traffic and road safety on Mechanic Street. Norfolk County’s traffic studies found vehicle speeds higher than typically expected for this roadway and neighbourhood context.

Traffic data helps show how vehicles move through the corridor, but it does not always capture how residents and other road users experience the street. Community feedback will add local context, identify specific concerns, and highlight issues that may not be evident through technical studies alone.

Feedback gathered through this review will help Norfolk County better understand current conditions and identify opportunities to improve the corridor for all users.

Use the interactive map to drop a pin and share your experience or ideas about:

  • Vehicle speeds
  • Pedestrian safety
  • Crossing locations
  • Sidewalks and accessibility
  • Visibility and sightlines
  • Driver behaviour
  • Other traffic or road safety concerns

Your feedback will help Norfolk County understand community experiences along the corridor, identify areas for further review, and inform potential solutions.

Fall 2026: Community engagement and issue identification.

Late 2026: Review feedback and technical data; develop potential solutions.

Winter 2027 / Spring 2027: Present a draft plan and gather additional feedback.

Spring / Summer 2027: Finalize recommendations and implementation priorities.
