Consultation has concluded
The multi-purpose floor conversion is part of the Simcoe Recreation Centre Retrofit and Upgrade Project, which is still in the early planning stages.
What is the multi-purpose floor?
The multi-purpose floor space at the Simcoe Recreation Centre, previously an arena/ice pad surface, was converted to an indoor recreational space in 2021. During the initial conversion, the ice plant was decommissioned, and HVAC upgrades were completed, giving the space proper heating and air conditioning capabilities.
The polished concrete floor is integral to the daily weekday programming of the Simcoe Seniors' Centre and, in addition, is currently used for many indoor purposes, including pickleball, floor hockey, badminton, indoor walking, fitness and dry land training, indoor sports practices, roller derby, large event venues, children’s programming, and birthday parties.
We want to hear from you!
Your feedback, suggestions, and ideas will help staff understand the overall community vision for the Multi-Purpose Floor Conversion project. It will also guide the consultants and engineers in developing preliminary interior design concepts for a phased approach for future renovations.
To get the discussion started, we would like to focus on the following areas:
What would you like to see the multipurpose floor used for? For example, pickle ball, basketball, indoor soccer?
Are there any design features you would like to see included? For example, a walking/running track.
Are there activity amenities that you think should be included? For example, basketball nets or gym mats?
Is there a specific type of flooring that you would like to see installed? For example, hardwood, rubber?
Should the existing hockey benches and arena boards be removed? Why or why not?
Are there examples of other facilities outside of Norfolk County with design features that you would like the County to consider? Please share links to websites or examples if you have any.
Are there any accessibility features that you would like to see incorporated? For example, an elevator or lift, automatic door operators or specific dressing room and washroom features?
