Consultation has concluded

Construction Dates: June to August 2022

Location: Port Dover, ON

If you have any comments, questions or concerns about the Pedestrian Crossing Facilities, please contact Adam Cave, Project Manager, at (519) 420-8792

This notice is to provide public notification of the upcoming installation of a dedicated pedestrian crossing (PXO) on Main Street in Port Dover. Norfolk County Engineering staff are seeking feedback from the community regarding the proposed location and configuration.

Location maps have been provided for reference.

Project Scope

Main Street, Port Dover

The scope of work will consist of the installation of a Type 2 Level B PXO (dedicated pedestrian crossing) in accordance with Ontario Traffic Manual Book 15. Bump-ins are being implemented at the crossing location to narrow the road from four (4) lanes to two (2) lanes to provide a safer crossing for pedestrians. The bump-ins will also serve as a traffic calming measure.

Staff have considered all the potential locations for the pedestrian crossing on Main Street between Alma Street and Greenock Street West. Factors taken into consideration include property constraints, sidewalk continuity and accessibility for all community members. Upon field review, staff have established a preferred location. Refer to the attached location map.

Construction Schedule

The construction schedule will be finalized once the project is tendered and awarded to a Contractor. The tentative construction schedule is to start in June 2022 and continue to August 2022.

During the construction of this project, it is our intention to minimize the impact on your everyday life. If any special needs or requirements routinely occur during a day or week, we need to be made aware of them in order that the necessary arrangements can be made so that these needs can continue to be met during construction.

What is a Level 2 Type B PXO?

A Level 2 Type B PXO is a dedicated pedestrian crossing facility. Dedicated pedestrian crossing facilities are established and defined within Ontario Traffic Manual Book 15.

The intent of a dedicated pedestrian crossing is to provide a facility to allow for pedestrians to safely cross busy roads. Pedestrian and traffic volumes are considered when deciding to implement a dedicated pedestrian crossing.

A Level 2 Type B PXO is complete with rapid flashing beacons, overhead signage and audible push buttons to provide an accessible crossing for all community members.

A dedicated pedestrian crossing, when flashing, yields the right of way to the pedestrian and require motorists to stop and allow pedestrians to cross the road.
