Norfolk County’s Safety Team, made up of seven awesome characters (one for each Ward), is ready to help keep our community safe!
These local characters were designed by a talented local high school student, Will Wesh, during his co-op with Norfolk’s Communications team. Each member of the Team is based on a real animal that lives right here in Norfolk County.
Following the recent vote by our community members, we are excited to announce the names of the team.
Winning names
Ward 1 – Sandhill Crane: Skye, named by Dorothy
Ward 2 – Grey Fox: Frankie, named by Shawn
Ward 3 – White-Tailed Deer: Winston, named by Emily
Ward 4 – Spotted Salamander: Sammy, named by Lawrence
Ward 5 – Grey Squirrel: Griffin, named by Marlene
Ward 6 – Yellow Perch: Percy, named by Erin
Ward 7 – Blanding’s Turtle: Tilly, named by Christine
Thank you to everyone who submitted ideas and participated in the voting process!
Our winners have been contacted by email with details on how to pick up their prizes. As outlined in the contest rules, if more than one person submitted the same name, those entrants were entered into a draw to determine the prize winner. Each winner will receive a $50 VISA gift card and a Norfolk Safety Kit— a backpack filled with essential items to help households stay safe and self-sufficient for at least three days following an emergency.
The Safety Team will be featured in future campaigns to help make important topics such as safety, civic awareness, and environmental stewardship more relatable and memorable to children and youth.
