<h2><strong>About the Project</strong></h2><p>Curbside waste collection includes garbage, recycling, leaf and yard waste, and bulky item material and impacts each household within Norfolk County. The current curbside waste collection contract expires in September 2026. In preparation for the upcoming contract, Norfolk County staff are examining different curbside waste collection options. The analysis of financial data, regulatory compliance, and resident feedback will all contribute to the development of final recommendations for curbside collection programs.</p><h2><strong>Recycling Information</strong></h2><p>Norfolk County&#39;s Recycling Program will transition to a producer responsibility model on September 28, 2024. Producer responsibility is a program where companies that make recyclable products and packaging (such as cardboard boxes, paper, food and beverage containers) pay fees to cover collecting and sorting recycling costs. Waste Management Service Review

<p>Norfolk County is developing a Cemeteries Master Plan, a strategic &lsquo;guiding document&rsquo; that will consider various factors that will help guide us forward in the coming years.</p><p>The plan is being developed by LEES+Associates, who have conducted hundreds of Cemetery Master Plans throughout much of Canada and into the United States.</p><p>The value of a consultant for this process is that they bring a huge amount of expertise to the table and will consider details that are not always apparent to us. They will also take into account trends and factors learned from beyond the borders of Norfolk County and within the death-care and cemetery industry.</p><p>As part of this process, we would like to invite some input from your perspective.</p><p>For this Plan, we are focusing on a high-level analysis of our Cemeteries. Examples of high-level things, pending what the consultants&#39; research reveals, the plan may include:</p><ul><li>How does our communities&#39; new (and planned) growth affect our cemetery capacities?</li><li>How much will our &lsquo;aging&rsquo; population affect what&rsquo;s needed?</li><li>What cemetery needs / uses/trends exist elsewhere?</li><li>Can we better prepare for private cemeteries being turned over to the county?</li><li>Can we foster interest in community volunteers being involved in cemeteries?</li><li>Do we have adequate resources to manage any &lsquo;new&rsquo; sites?</li><li>How can we best make use of existing cemetery space?</li><li>How much space/land do we have, and do we need to consider adding more?</li><li>What are other municipalities/cemeteries doing, and what can we learn from them?</li></ul><p>The feedback of County residents is important and will help our consultant interpret how residents&#39; opinions and experiences shape their recommendations.</p><p>We hope you&rsquo;ll take some time to complete the survey!</p><p>A quick overview of Norfolk County cemeteries:</p><ul><li>Currently, Norfolk County has 45 &lsquo;operating&rsquo; cemeteries and dozens more non-operating &lsquo;pioneer&rsquo; cemeteries.</li><li>About 20 of our &lsquo;operating&rsquo; cemeteries are fully active, meaning graves can be purchased and interments can happen there.</li><li>About 25 cemeteries are &lsquo;semi-active,&rsquo; meaning that graves are no longer sold there, but interments can happen on graves that are already &lsquo;owned&rsquo; (aka existing &ldquo;Interment Rights&rdquo;).</li><li>6 County-owned cemeteries are operated on our behalf by dedicated volunteers who serve as a Cemetery Board.</li></ul>
